Helpful tips on avoiding hemorrhoids through diet and proper hygiene

Tips on hemorrhoid prevention and healing

Please consult with your physician before attempting any of these tips….

I am not a medical doctor, I am a regular guy that stumbled upon certain habits and techniques that helps prevent me from getting hemorrhoids. What works for me, might not work for you, but it is inexpensive and worth a shot.

Diet

Excessive dairy and meat in your diet is known to cause hemorrhoids, so that would be a good way to prevent getting them in the first place.

Make sure that you have plenty of oils (olive oil and Omega 3) in your diet. Also, high fiber foods are a big help to avoid pushing when you are going to the bathroom. Make sure that you are drinking enough water each day as well.

No Excessive wiping

Try to wet the toilet paper, so you can clean yourself much faster without wiping as much. This simple habit has been a huge help for me.

Grooming

Make sure the area is groomed well and gently with a trimmer, but be careful not to cut yourself. The tissues in the area are very sensitive and you do not want to nick them.

Cleaning

Wash the area well in the shower and always make sure that your under garments are clean.

1-2 times a day clean the area with rubbing alcohol on toilet paper. I fill a small spritzer bottle with rubbing alcohol, so I do not put too much onto the toilet paper. Two squirts should do the trick.

WARNING – this is going to sting and it is certainly an eye opener, but the stinging will go away after 30 seconds or so. This sterilizes the area and it will be worth the brief uncomfortable feeling of the stinging.

For maintenance, you can use witch hazel. It is more soothing than rubbing alcohol, but it does not sterilize the area like rubbing alcohol does and it is less effective.

Scratching

DO NOT DO IT…no matter how good it feels, you will rip open tissues, causing more pain, discomfort, swelling and infection.

If the area is itching, just go gently clean it again and that should help. Put some lotion on if the area becomes dry from the rubbing alcohol.

Sitting

People that sit all day at work also have to make sure that their chair is well cushioned and comfortable. Try to take a break here and there to avoid irritating "the area".
